HistoryThe doors of Johnson's Real Ice Cream of Bexley, Ohio were first opened by Robert N. Johnson and his son-in-law James Wilcoxon on September 1, 1950. Together they developed the ice cream and built the building for the business that has become, the oldest and most complete ice cream shop in Columbus. The original 15 x 20 building at 2728 East Main Street has grown, through several expansions, allowing better service to customers in our fountain and retail area and enabling more efficient manufacturing of our fine product for an expanding wholesale business. We continue to offer our hand packed ice cream in 50 flavors, fountain specialties, as well as the newer additions to Johnson's. These include our Deli for lunch, our own line of Fresh Fruit Sorbets, and our Fresh Baked Pies, Cookies and Waffle Cones. Honors we have earned include blue ribbons for our Pure Vanilla and Chocolate ice creams from the National Ice Cream Retailers Association in 1982 and 1983. We are especially proud of our 1980 "Idea of the Year Award" from Dairy Record Magazine for our Christmas Open House Sunday, which was instrumental in establishing the Bexley Chamber of Commerce. In April 1987, Jim Wilcoxon Jr., assumed the operation of the family business, with son Matt Wilcoxon the fourth generation, joining the business full time in 1994. Over the years, a trip to Johnson's has become an established part of life in Bexley, a fact in which we take great pride. We look forward to fulfilling our pledge of providing you with the finest quality products and services available. Stop in and see us.
